Role Description:

As a member of the People & Culture team, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist administers the activities relating to the company payroll, benefits and HRIS processing and is the company’s subject matter expert in these areas.

We are looking for a payroll and benefits professional who has minimum 3-5 years of experience with full-cycle payroll processing experience in Canada, US and UK, and have a keen eye for process improvements. You love the idea of being a part of a growing organization and will be involved with determining an appropriate system implementation or upgrade. You’re happy with a hybrid work arrangement (fully remote to start, and you’ll determine the working arrangement that best suits you once you’re settled in).

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of all activities related to payroll, benefits and HRIS administration for 200+ employees
  • Process all new hires, benefits enrolments, change notifications, leaves, terminations, etc.
  • Prepare and submit monthly benefits billing, liaise with benefits brokers/providers and prepare annual T4s / W-2’s.
  • Administer benefits and pension plans, administer annual benefits open-enrolment, and calculate and communicate prepayment of benefit premiums for employees beginning a leave of absence.
  • Ensure HRIS is maintained with current and update to date information such as benefit rates.
  • First point of contact for all questions related to payroll and benefits, assisting employees and stakeholders regarding inquiries, enrolments, terminations, and revisions to employee benefits
  • Communicate directly with benefits brokers/providers as required.
  • Keep current with provincial and state legislative standards and requirements and ensure they are applied and updated accordingly.
  • Update TD1 Forms and Benefit rates.
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency and consult with the People & Culture team to improve payroll and HRIS processes.
  • Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports pertaining to payroll and human resources requirements.
  • Participate on committees and other projects and initiatives as required.

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience administering payroll, benefits and HRIS processes.
  • Completion of C.P.A. Payroll Administrator Certificate or other recognized payroll programs.
  • Experience analyzing existing payroll systems within a growing organization (both organically and via acquisitions), and determining which systems are best to continue using/stop using/new ones to consider using
  • Experience processing US payroll is required
  • System implementation experience is required
  • Knowledge and understanding/education in human resources, payroll practices, benefits administration, and compliance or other related experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CRA / IRA rules pertaining to payroll, Employment Standards & Statutory requirements for Canadian, US and UK payrolls.
